The dual-national academic, who was born in the UK, lived there until the age of 15 and is a US citizen, is well versed and studied when it comes to the royal family and Queen Elizabeth II

The length of her reign has been "unbelievable", Duerr told News Center 7's John Bedell, referring to the fact that she has been on the throne for seven decades and is the longest reigning monarch in British history

"A 70-year reign is just enormous. When you think about what has happened between 1950 and now. The Queen was Queen when the United Kingdom joined what is now the European Union in 1973," Duerr said

"She was Queen when she left with Brexit in 2016. So she has seen a lot. She's been through a lot of scandals and challenges, but at the same time now, at the end of her life"

"she has a son, a grandson and a great-grandson who are all in line for the throne. So in many ways it is a huge legacy that can reach even into the 22nd century," the professor said.

The Queen leaves a legacy of "tremendous stability" for Britain and will also be remembered for her lifetime of service to her country and her diplomatic contribution

She was "a person who travelled widely. She opened doors in diplomacy, meeting Chinese delegations in 1986, Russians in 1994 and the Republic of Ireland in 2011," said Ms Duerr

"She has met with five popes, which was a major event between the Anglican, or what we call the Episcopal Church in the United States, and the Roman Catholic Church. So a long, long life indeed in difficult waters. But I think for a lot of people, she was their queen."

Duerr said that in assessing the Queen's 70-year reign, one has to take into account the fact that this week she has just appointed her 15th Prime Minister, Liz Truss. Her first Prime Minister was Sir Winston Churchill, who served a second term as Prime Minister in the 1950s
